Hawaii: Day 1 1/21

Back in October, hubby asked what I wanted to do for my 40th birthday in January 2017.  My response was just a typical "let's go someplace warmer than here."  I started scouting places and said- "what about Seattle?"  His response... "I'm thinking warmer, like Hawaii."  We also had a pretty rough 2016, so it's no time like the present to do things that will make us happy now.

Then, the planning began!  We did some research and decided on Oahu, Maui and Big Island for 10 days.  Kauai and Molokai would be next in line.

We decided to get to Chicago the day before so we would be right there for our flight on Saturday am. Great decision as we parked the car in the economy lot, checked into the hotel and began our vacation early at the airport hotel!

Away we go!  First stop Honolulu! 🌴🌈🌸. We had a direct flight and it took 9 1/2 hours.  We had plenty of snacks and free movies on the iPad, and of course books!

We made it to Oahu!  It was a pretty rough landing due to the wind and rainy weather.  It didn't bother us, we were in vacation mode!

Aloha! 🌸

We got into our rental and made our way to our AirBnB.  We did this trip a little differently as we used AirBnB instead of hotels and ended up saving so much money based on what average places on the island was for hotels.
We made it!  Our flight landed around 3:30 in the afternoon, Hawaii time.  Hawaii is 5 hours behind Eastern time zone, so we had a small adjustment there.

Here is our view of the ocean and mountain from our private balcony.  Yes, it was windy!  It took us a bit to get there, as they had closed part of the highway due to a sinkhole!  It was all over the news too!

Because of the rain we saw plenty of rainbows on our very first day :)
Our first sunset!  :)
We made it to Kona Brewing for dinner.  The view was pretty good despite the wind.  We were just happy to be on land!

One of the best poke we had on our entire trip!  The flavors and textures made this taste amazing!
The kalua pork quesadillas were so yummy and different than anything we have ever tried.
They were doing a free beer tasting of their seasonal beers :)

Travel day and dinner were a success!  Aloha! 🌈
