Cincy foods

We were in the Cincinnati area, (Covington, Ky) for a wedding; so of course we had to try out the local eats!

Cock and Bull for dinner and beers!

First, I tried a pretzel with cheese!  Yummmmm and buttery!  (Not pictured)

My main meal I had a Reuben and fries.  The fries were really crispy and good!  The Reuben was really tasty.  I gave my leftovers to a homeless man who said he was hungry.  (Pay it forward!)

Hubby had the bacon mushroom onion straw burger!  Dinner was reasonably priced and they had lots of craft beers to choose from!

Group shot!

For breakfast, I searched Yelp for dives and we found the Anchor Grill!

Old time interior!

We started off with a half order of biscuits and gravy... Soooooo good!

Next, we had goetta omelets. Per Wikipedia: Goetta is a breakfast sausage of likely German-American origin that is popular in the greater Cincinnati area. It is primarily composed of ground meat (pork, or pork and beef), steel-cut oats and spices.

And it is sooooo good!!!!!

Cool view from our hotel!

For lunch before the wedding we went to Cincinnati and the "Over the Rhine" area. We ate at Bakersfield.

We split chips and guacamole!  Excellent and made fresh every hour!

I had a lovely beer!

Them we had some tacos!  John had the fish taco and I had the Pastor (pork with  pineapple) and Rajas (peppers and veggies!). These were all very good!

And then we were off to the wedding!  Great trip in Ohio/Kentucky!

Great eats in Indianapolis

We wanted to try a new city while driving to a wedding in the Cincinnati area.  Since we are on our Diners, Drive ins and Dives quest; we decided on Indianapolis and made our plan of attack!

It started with Wednesday night happy hour at 20 Tap!  They had several great beers on tap, even Founders and Bells!  I even chatted with new people! :)

I chose a couple of local beers.  Also had fried cheese for an appetizer.  It came with aioli's yummm- garlic and chipotle!

For dinner we headed to Zest!

We started with Tomato Bon Bons
-baby tomatoes, local asiago, sausage, cornmeal crust, tomato tzatziki

These were delish and Guy from DDD tried these!

The bread basket with spicy cheese popcorn and ailioli's came next!

John ordered the chicken and waffle, which had amazing potatoes and green beans with it!  Delish!

I had mushroom tacos with refried beans.  The cabbage slaw was a lil too vinegary for me, but they were good.  The refried beans melted in my mouth!

Day 2, we tried to go to another DDD, but they were closed when we arrived.  So backup plan was the #1 rated place on Yelp, Cafe Patachu.

It was in a cute neighborhood and we were seated immediately.  This place is very dog friendly and there were several dogs around!

We started with the self serve coffee bar, mmmm.

Next, I ordered the Cuban Breakfast!
-Seasoned black beans and white rice, served hot with a fried egg and white cheddar, topped with avocado, sour cream and our spinach-jalapeño sauce....

Cuban= to.die.for!!!!!

John had a meat omelette of bacon, ham, sausage and cheese and cinnamon bread.

I snuck some bites and the meat was so fresh and that bread was amazing!!

Found a great place for lunch, actually near Cafe Patachu, a DDD The Barking Dog!

We started with the soup!  I had the mushroom wild rice and John had clam chowder!  Both were incredible!  The chowder reminded us of our trip to Boston last year.

We split the Bark Lard sandwich and a side of frittes.  Wow, flavorful sandwich (especially the tomato jelly) and great bacon, obviously local).  The fries were also fresh and crispy with a side of aioli.

We stopped at Yats to get their seasoning and then we we left Indy!  We loved it there enjoyed our time!

Hawaii Day 10- 1/30
