Welcome to New York, Day 8

Our last day in NYC!  It was still a hot 81 degrees, but we didn't mind it at all, as there was still a nice breeze again.  We decided on somewhere new for breakfast, as we had a lot of time to walk around and explore on our last day, with no set plans.

We ended up on the Upper West Side at Mila Cafe.  This place had a great menu and they were very friendly.

John ordered two breakfast sandwiches.

I kept it pretty easy with cheesy eggs, bacon and toast.

After breakfast, we continued our walk.  These apartment buildings were pretty cool!

Next we made our way up to Morningside Park and walked around.

From here, we visited the campus of Columbia University.

It wouldn't be a trip to New York without a Seinfeld reference!  Here is the breakfast place of the Seinfeld show!

Next, we walked to the nearby Amsterdam Tavern.  It had great beer on tap and some funny quotes all over the place!

Of course we needed a snack, so we walked across the street to Mama's Pizzeria!

Our last stop was Tara Hill, where all dogs are royals, totally our kind of place!

One last photo in front of our hotel, across the street from Central Park!

We made our way to the airport pretty early, as we didn't want to take any chances with New York Traffic.  We got access to the Sky Club and had dinner and drinks until our late flight.

We were on our way home after an amazing time in NYC.  There is so much to see, eat and experience in this city!

Some photos of the city at night from the plane~ bye New York, you were seriously amazing!

FitBit update: 20.095 steps or 8.39 miles.  Walked an average of 10 miles per day!  :)

Welcome to New York, Day 7

We were ready for our day of exploration!  It was 84 degrees, but there was a really nice breeze all day.  We decided that we weren't going to go back to our hotel until after our Broadway show!
Our first item on the agenda - Breakfast and coffee at Pancho's!

Hubby ordered the ham omellete and it came with potatoes and toast.

I ordered the spicy Mexican omelette that came with Chorizo, jalepenos, tomatoes and avocadoes with potatoes and toast also.

After breakfast, we headed to the bus stop!  Today's adventure started at the Metropolitian Museum of Art (The MET).

Here I am, posing, Gossip Girl style, XOXO.

Like most things in New York, we had to wait for the museum to open (10AM).

The museum didn't disappoint.  We were so glad that we went on a weekday!  We saw the long lines on a Saturday afternoon, while we hit the smaller galleries.  We focused our time on the European wing, American wing, some of the new China exhibit, and a small portion of the Egyptians.  The European wing is honestly, the main reason we went to the museum.  The amount of art in this wing alone is worth the admission price!

After the museum, we headed to one of New York's deli treasures.  Katz Deli!

This was what it looked like around 1:30 on a Wednesday afternoon! It wasn't too busy, as I got us a table and there were several tables available.

We ordered the fries!

'

The Pastrami sandwich!

It comes with a side of these yummy homemade pickles.

Look how big this sandwich is!  The meat was falling off as each bite was taken!

This is my favorite photo of John at the deli!  His eyes say it all!  This sandwich rocks and is huge!

John was very happy after this lunch and immediately stated that when we come back to New York that we need to stay near this place so we can come more often :).

I had to get a New York bagel, so we stopped at nearby Russ & Daughters.  I have to say, I wasn't impressed at all.  There was too much salmon, and it wasn't "smoked" like I had expected.  Also, the bagel was pretty chewy.  I guess New York bagels like this aren't my thing.

After our lunch and snack, we started our walk up the Bowery to head towards Broadway.

First stop, in Washington Square Park, White Oak Tavern.

This place had a lot of charm and was a great location with a happy hour that lasted all day!? :)

We walked a couple miles north and stopped at Num Pang Sandwich Shop, as the sign said they had happy hour!  John found $2 Tiger beer and I had $6 Riesling.  As it turns out, this was the best people watching spot ever!  We watched the tourists, men in suits, young professionals and just about everyone walk by.  One thing to note, women who aren't tourists in New York carry HUGE handbags.

We saw the National Debt Clock along the way, WOW!

Next we stopped at a hotel bar called "Restaurant Charlotte."  Needless to say, the bartender wasn't very friendly and we left after our drinks.  Some people, just hate life I think.   We stopped at another place nearby called, The Long Room!  It was pretty happening, but there were no seats available.

We got to the Belasco Theatre ready for the show, Hedwig and the Angry Inch!

The show was good, but it was kind of loud with the band playing.  I didn't know what to expect. I really liked the storyline, but didn't understand parts of it.  John promised that we would watch the movie when we got home so I would understand it better and now, I do as we watched it last weekend!

After the show we went to a Zagat rated Mexican restaurant called Toloache!

Here is my white sangria, a little too sweet for me, but still okay.

The ceiling and the lanterns were just awesome!  I loved the decor in this place!

We started off with the queso con chorizo and it was really yummy in the tortillas!  Plus the salsa was really good!

John ordered the Polo Toloache: Chipotle-marinated chicken breast a la plancha crispy Mexican cheeses-pinto bean dumpling sweet corn-pico de gallo, it was so tasty, I need to learn how to make this at home!

I opted for the Suadero Bohemia–braised brisket, avocado red onions, cilantro, tomatillo salsa horseradish crema.

They were very delicious, but on the small side.

Instead of waiting for a bus or the delayed subway, we decided to Uber it back to the hotel and I am so glad we did as it was a very long day and night!
