Welcome to NY, Day 5

We slept in a little bit, this means we woke up at 8 :).   This was another really hot day!  The temperature got up to 87 and the low was 70!

We headed out to our favorite local breakfast!  Coffee!

Eggs, cheese, gravy biscuit for me!

Eggs, cheese, salmon biscuit for him!

Next we walked around the Lower East Side and got coffees from Cafe Grumpy!

Our last stop was for donuts from Doughnut Plant!  Very good, but filling donuts!

We got an Uber and moved locations to our new hotel.  We moved to a hotel in the Upper West Side, right across the street from Central Park!  Astor on the Park!  This too, was a budget hotel, but clean and quiet.

After getting checked in early!  (YAY!) We walked through Central Park to the Guggenheim museum.    This museum was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.  The design is spectatular!  Definitely one of the highlights of this mostly modern museum.  I was a bit disappointed that the Kadinsky room was closed during our visit; however, the Tannhauser collection made up for it!  There were works of art by Picasso, Manet, Renoir, Monet, Van Gough!

On a side note, there is a Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit, but it is in the lowest floor and it isn't very easy to find without assistance.  We both liked this, as we live in a city where one of his houses is (the Meyer May house).

We walked around the Upper East Side for awhile and John found this restaurant, Zagat rated, with a lunch prix special, that included a glass of wine!  So we walked in.  The restaurant was called Firenze.   The front had this cute display of wine bottles and had a lot of charm.

The lunch specials.

The regular menu!  When you open it up, it lights up!  :)

The waiter brought me my wine right away!

Of course, we got complimentary bread and olive oil with olives.  I believe this is a thing in NYC as this is the third restaurant that serves their bread with olives.  The olives were aged and pretty good!

John ordered a salad.

Calamari salad

Ravoli Bella Firenze (ricotta, spinach stuffed with butter and sage sauce)

Homemade papardelle with bolognese meat sauce

Complimentary lemoncello and biscoti!  The drinks were very strong.

After lunch, we took the bus back to our hotel.  We learned that the buses, although the ride was longer, they were more reliable!   We got changed and got ready for the Yankees game!

Saying cheese in front of Yankee Stadium!

We got to the Bronx a couple of hours before the game began, so we stopped in this local tavern!

We got to our seats and the view was pretty good!  Our tickets were pretty inexpensive, so I was happy with our third base view!

We got this chicken and french fry bucket for dinner and it was $20!  It was pretty good and a lot of food for the price!

View of the field!

The grounds crew.  The funniest thing about this photo, is they are doing the YMCA.  It was hysterical!

The Yankees lose (which we had hoped for!  GO CUBS! :) )

We took the subway as far south as we could and ended up walking back to our hotel from Harlem.  It was another long day, but we had a great time!

FitBit count: 21,749 steps or 9.08 miles.
