Welcome to New York, Day 6

Our daily photo!  It was a HOT 90 degrees.  I'm so glad that I brought a lot of light clothing and mainly sleeveless shirts, otherwise, it would have been way too hot!

I did a couple of searches for breakfast and found this nearby gem, three blocks away!  Pancho's on Amsterdam!

Hubby had the breakfast burrito!

I had this amazing huevos rancheros with chorizo.  It was seriously so good, that I dubbed it the best I've ever had!

Next we hopped on the subway to get to Midtown.

I was pretty excited for this day, as we went to the top of the Rockerfellar building!  "Top of the Rock!"  The elevator ride up is pretty cool!  It doesn't take that long, but be sure to look up and record if you ever happen to take the tour!

We reached the first landing and got our first look at Central Park from up top!  It was beautiful!

There are three different levels that you can go see.  The issue is there is this glass on the first two levels.  Just go directly to the top and there is no glass blocking your view!

You can see the NYE ball from Times Square at the top!

I got some really cool shots of the cityline!

Central Park is behind us!

Here we are on the very top and you can see the Empire State building and in the distance is One World Trade Center!

It was beautiful up there!  The best views!

Next, it was time for lunch, so we had to get a snack!  We were close to this Louis CK place, so we had to stop!

Cheese for me!

Sausage and pepperoni for him!

This is the pizzeria that Louis CK walks into during the introduction of his show :).  Of course I had to get a photo of me there!

Next, right down the block is the Comedy Cellar!

We wanted to cool off before our walking tour, so we got these wonderful Pomegranite Ice Teas from this place called Pret... they were pretty amazing!

Next, we started our walking tour called: Alternative New York.
  • St. Mark’s Place - a street where so many groundbreaking artists lived.
  • Astor Place and Cooper Union Square- Site of the Astor Place riots and Cooper Union Hall where in 1859 a little known politician named Abraham Lincoln gave a revolutionary anti-slavery speech that would lead to his nomination.
  • Tompkins Square Park – history-rich site of violence, riots, political speeches and even a shocking murder.
  • The Mosaic Trail – art by the legendary Mosaic Man and one of the must-see treats in the City.
  • Sites of former legendary venues former Fillmore East, Electric Circus, the Pyramid Club transvestites.
  • The General Slocum Monument in honor of the 1200 people who died in a single afternoon in the tragic General Slocum disaster of 1904.

After our tour was over, we headed to the bus stop to get back to the Upper West Side, so that we could get ready for our Broadway play!

We contacted Uber and they were at the hotel in two minutes!  It was so great to have such a reliable service!

We hit some traffic heading into Times Square and the Broadway area, so we decided to get out and walk to the theater, which was only a couple of blocks away.

The Book of Mormon!  This was the main reason for our trip to NYC and we were both very excited about the show!

Hubby picked out fantastic seats for us!

I had a snack of crackers and wine in a sippy cup!  That's how they do it on Brodway!  The show was amazing!  It was funny, clever and the songs are addictive.  In fact, as soon as we got home, John bought the soundtrack and we've both been singing and listening to it daily.  I don't want to give away too much about the show, but I highly recommend it!

After the show is over, we walked to a nearby Zagat restaurant named Ippudo, Westside.  Prior to coming to NYC, we had learned that Ramen places were big and we couldn't wait to try it!  They said the wait would be about 25 minutes, so we stood by the bar while we waited.

Sake and sauvignon blanc while we wait!

Edamame with yuzu salt.

Sardines

Hubby ordered the Shiromaru Hakata Classic, the original “Tonkotsu” (pork) broth with Ippudo Westside’s signature Dashi; thin noodles topped with pork loin chashu, sesame kikurage mushrooms, menma, red pickled ginger, and scallions with Shigreni.

This was really flavorful and the pork was very tender.

I went for the spicier side and got Karaka-men, the original “Tonkotsu”(pork) broth with an added kick; thin noodles with Ippudo’s special blend of hot spices, topped with pork chashu, sesame kikurage mushrooms, cabbage, scallions, and fragrant garlic oil.

I am in love with this dish.  It was spicy and so flavorful!

After dinner, we had to do the "tourist" thing and at least go to Times Square.

Wow, bright lights, so much noise on a Tuesday night!  There was so much going on, and it was loud!  But, I'm happy we got to see it and experience it first hand!

We hopped on a subway and got back to our hotel.  With the songs from "Book of Mormon" in my head, I fell asleep fast and singing.

FitBit update: 21,710 steps or 9.06 miles.
